Frequently Asked Questions
At Rentalcars.com, finding a car hire in Italy is easy. Whether you are going to Rome, Venice, Milan, or any other of this country’s beautiful cities, we can help you find the right deal by comparing cars from a wide range of companies. When you search for a car through our website, we give you everything you need to make an informed decision – not just based on price, but also information on fuel policies, ratings, pick-up locations and more.
Finding a hire car with no excess whatsoever is difficult, but you can certainly find cars with a low excess. We make comparing easy – each car has a terms and conditions (Ts&Cs) link. When you click on the link, scroll down until you find the section called ‘Deposits, Excess and Cover’.
You might also be interested in our protection products, which cover damage to most car parts, as well as various associated administration fees. If you buy our protection and something happens to the car, you will get your money back even if you lose your excess.
Having a different drop off location to your pick-up location in Italy is certainly doable. Whether you want to explore the stunning Amalfi Coast or travel from Rome to Pisa, we will help you find the cheapest one way deals. The one exception is if you want to take your car from the Italian mainland to the island of Sardinia. Very few car hire companies will allow you to make this trip, since sea transport is involved.
You should also bear in mind that if you want to do a one-way rental, car hire companies will usually charge a One Way Fee, also known as a drop charge.
When you use Rentalcars.com to search for a one-way rental in Italy, we let you know if a car hire company charges a One Way Fee before you make the booking. And since we compare deals from so many car hire companies in Italy, you can easily find the ones with the lowest One Way Fee, or even no fee at all.
20 is a pretty common minimum age, although it depends on what kind of car you want.
You might need to be 25 to hire a big, powerful car, but since we work with so many companies in Italy, we can almost certainly find you a car you’ll be happy with, as long as you’re 20 or over.
There’s a box in the search form at the top of this page that says ‘Driver aged 30 – 65?’ If you’re under 30, uncheck that box and enter your age. When you hit ‘Search’, you’ll only see cars that someone your age can drive.
Top tip: Car hire companies might charge you a Young Driver Fee if you’re only a few years over the minimum age. These fees can really vary, so it’s well worth taking a bit of time to compare different cars and companies on our site. If you don’t see a Young Driver Fee underneath the car’s price, you’ll find it in the car’s terms and conditions (click ‘Ts&Cs’ and look under ‘Driving Charges’).
